Rangers Fall One Run Short of Mesa State in 7-6 Loss on the Road
Grand Junction, Colo.: After five straight home games, the Rangers traveled to Grand Junction where they fell 7-6 to the Mesa State Mavericks on Friday. With two runs each in the first, fourth, and eighth, Regis fell short one run after being unable to post any runs in the ninth.
The Rangers jumped on top in the top of the first with a two run homer by Patrick Farrell that drove in Jesus Arzaga who reached on a fielder's choice. The Mavericks answered back in the bottom of the inning with a homerun of their own by Greg Anderson. Mesa State posted two more runs in the bottom of the second to hold a 3-2 lead going into the third.
After a scoreless inning, Regis posted two more runs in the top of the fourth when they compiled four straight hits to drive in two runs. J.T. Putt led off the inning with a single to left field before Farrell doubled also to left field. Zach Blakeley drove in Putt on a single to center before Alex Haag singled to center field to bring in Farrell.
The Mavericks tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth and seventh before Regis added two more in the top of the eighth on a two run single to center field by Farrell. With no more runs added by either team in the ninth, Mesa State grabbed the 7-6 victory.
On the day, Farrell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBI's, one double, and one homerun. Haag went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Up next, Regis will face Mesa State in a double-header on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1:30.
