Mesa State Completes Sweep of Regis in Another One-Run Game 6-5

Grand Junction, Colo.: Mesa State completed a four-game sweep of Regis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action with a 6-5 victory on Sunday.  It was the Rangers ninth one-run game this season with Regis winning just three of those nine.

Regis (9-13, 5-8 RMAC) scored two runs in the first inning on RBIs by senior Patrick Farrell and sophomore Alex Haag.  Mesa State (13-8, 9-4 RMAC) responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Rangers tied the game at five in the eighth inning on a two-run homerun by Haag. Sophomore Tyler Landwehr got the loss in relief of starter Mike McElreath going 1 2/3 innings and allowing the game-winning run to score on a Brian Bello single that scored Kevin Becker from second with two outs.

McElreath went a strong seven innings allowing five earned runs on nine hits while striking out four Mavericks. 

Sophomore Dave Holland went 3-for-4 on the afternoon with one RBI and one run scored.  Haag had three RBIs going 2-for-5 along with Zach Blakeley's 2-for-5 effort. 

Regis will play a midweek game, weather permitting, at Colorado Mines on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.  Regis will host cross town rival Metro State for a four-game set that will begin on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
