Former Rangers Catcher Patrick Farrell Drafted in 32nd Round by New York Mets

Denver, Colo.: All-America catcher Patrick Farrell today was selected in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft by the New York Mets.  Farrell becomes the 12th player in Regis history to be drafted and the first since pitcher Matt Huff was selected in the 27th round in 2006 by the San Diego Padres.

Farrell will travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla. for a physical and will then know where he will begin his professional career.

Regis Head Coach Dan McDermott says, "I am excited for Patrick and proud of him.  He is a great baseball player and an even better person.  I have been very privileged to coach Patrick over the last two seasons and wish him all the best."

"I am looking forward to this next step in my career," states Farrell.  "It is an exciting time right now and I am anxious to get down to Florida."

An American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Second Team All-America honoree this season, Farrell was one of the top homerun hitters in the nation finishing with 20 while also driving in a team-high 55 runs.  His .897 slugging percentage is third best in Regis history and his homerun total second most.  Farrell's .777 career slugging percentage topped the previous Regis record by .100 points.

Farrell had two three homerun games and led the Rangers with 15 multi-RBI games including two games with five.  He had a 13-game hitting streak midway through the season which tied fellow senior Jesus Arzaga for the most this season by a Ranger.

Farrell was even better in clutch situations, especially with runners in scoring position.  He hit .426 (23-of-54) in those situations with 11 RBIs, which bettered his team-leading batting average of .386.

His 35 career homeruns in just two seasons are second most in Ranger history trailing Scott Landgraf (1989-91) by just three.  His .369 career batting average is 10th best in the Regis baseball record book.
