Rangers Offense Stymied in 3-1 and 4-2 Losses to #14 New Mexico Highlands
Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger offense was stymied today in 3-1 and 4-2 losses to 14th-ranked New Mexico Highlands. In a league known for offense, the pitchers ruled the diamond today.
The two teams combined to throw just six different pitchers and just 17 hits compared to 25 hits in the one game yesterday.
Regis (13-19, 9-14 RMAC) scored their solo run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Bob Terry driving in senior Max Regalado after he doubled to left center. New Mexico Highlands (28-6, 18-3 RMAC) scored single runs in the first, third and seventh innings on two groundouts and a sacrifice fly.
The Rangers outhit the Cowboys 5-3 including two hits apiece by senior J.T. Putt and Regalado. Sophomore Steve Falconi threw 6 1/3 innings allowing just three hits and two earned runs. Junior Bryant Asnicar finished off the last 2/3 of an inning allowing no hits.

Danny Brown of New Mexico Highlands limited the Rangers to just two hits in game two over his seven innings of work allowing just two runs. Regis got one run in the first inning when senior Patrick Farrell grounded out to the shortstop scoring Arzaga. Arzaga then provided a run in the third on a solo blast to left center field but that is all the Rangers could muster.
Senior Gerard Mohrmann gave up three runs in the first inning but settled down and allowed just one more run in the fifth inning. He went 4 2/3 innings allowing six hits and four earned runs to drop to 2-4 on the season. Fellow senior Eric Anderson pitched the final 2 1/2 innings allowing just one hit and no runs.
The two teams will play the series finale tomorrow with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
