Rangers Sweep Doubleheader Against Nebraska-Kearney; Dave Holland Hits Three-Run Walkoff Homerun

Denver, Colo.: Regis used timely hitting to outlast Nebraska-Kearney in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader.  Regis won the first game when freshman Dave Holland came off the bench to hit a three-run walkoff homerun to clinch the first game 12-11.  Regis again came from behind in the second game to win 8-7.

Regis (12-12, 5-6 RMAC) trailed 9-2 after 4 1/2 innings, but was able to pull within three scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth which was highlighted by junior Patrick Farrell's team leading ninth homerun of the season, a three-run job.  Nebraska-Kearney (7-13, 5-6 RMAC) scored two in the top of the seventh to take an 11-6 lead.

The Rangers saved their best for last as freshman Alex Haag led off with a single through the right side.  Junior J.T. Putt then drove him in with a triple to right field and he was later driven in by Farrell who was able to get on base via an error by the UNK shortstop.  Sophomore Zach Blakeley walked and the next batter, senior Curtis Hornaday was the first out of the inning on a pop up to the first baseman.

Senior Michael Khouri then singled to left field to plate Farrell to cut the lead to 11-9.  With runners on first and second Holland, who came in the top of the seventh as a defense sub, connected on his first collegiate homerun that just snuck inside the foul pole in left field to clinch the victory for the Rangers.

Haag and Khouri each went 3-for-4 in the game, while Farrell and Putt each collect two hits.  Farrell drove in five and scored three runs, both tops on the team.  Freshman Tyler Landwehr picked up his first collegiate victory going the final inning allowing one hit and two earned runs.  Junior Gerard Mohrman went 2 2/3 innings striking out five, while junior Eric Anderson went 3 1/3 innings allowing just two earned runs.
