Rangers Drop Slugfest, 20-14, to Nebraska-Kearney

Denver, Colo.: Regis and Nebraska-Kearney combined for 36 hits and 34 runs in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball action on Friday.  UNK came out victorious in the nine-inning affair 20-14 in the first game of a four-game weekend series.

Regis (10-12, 3-6 RMAC) held a 6-5 lead going into the fourth inning before Nebraska-Kearney (7-11, 5-4 RMAC) expolded for seven runs to take a 12-6 lead.  Two innings later they accomplished the same feat and took a 19-8 lead into the seventh inning.

Regis was able to score seven runs over the last two innings to close the score to 20-14.  Ranger leadoff batter Chris Steinbeck poked three hits for Regis and drove in two runs.  Junior Jesus Arzaga, junior Gerard Mohrmann, senior Curtis Hornaday, senior Michael Khouri, and freshman Dave Holland each collected two hits with Khouri and Holland coming off the bench to each go 2-for-2.

Junior Anthony Musielak dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.  Regis got homeruns from Arzaga (2 on the season), junior J.T. Putt (6) and Mohrmann (3).

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch set for 11 AM at the Regis Baseball Field.
