Regis Falls to Mines 8-4 on Walk-Off Grand Slam; Teams See 88-Minute Snow Delay

Golden, Colo.: Not rain, nor sleet, nor snow stopped Regis and Colorado Mines from finishing their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball game today.  The two teams sat through an 88 minute snow delay and when the snow settled Mines came out on top 8-4 ona walk-off grand slam.

Mines (5-13, 2-4 RMAC) scored three runs in the second inning on three Ranger errors.  Regis (8-10, 1-5 RMAC) responded with three runs in the fifth inning.  Following a single by Gerard Mohrmann and a double by Curtis Hornaday, Head Coach Dan McDermott put in pinch hitter Alex Haag and after his two-run single through the right side put the Rangers down 3-2.  Jesus Arzaga drove Haag in three batters later on a triple down the right field line to tie the game.

Mines scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to take a one-run lead.  Then the snow started flying and after the 88-minute delay the two teams reconvened.  Regis tied the game in the seventh inning when pinch runner Kyle Spencer scored on a wild pitch.

However, after three of the first four batters reached base for the Orediggers, Jarred Wallace came to the plate with one out and hit a walk-off grand slam to dispense of Regis 8-4.

Arzaga, J.T. Putt, and Patrick Farrell each collected two hits for Regis, which had 10 total hits.   Haag led the Rangers with his two RBI, while Arzaga drove in one.  Junior Darren Chavez took the loss for Regis falling to 2-3 on the season.  He went 2 1/3 innings allowing five earned runs.  Junior Gerard Mohrmann started the game and went four innings allowing two earned runs in a no decision.

Regis and Mines will now play two games tomorrow with the first game beginning at Noon.
