Rangers Relief Pitchers Shut Down Colorado Mines Offense in 7-4 Victory

Denver, Colo.: Three Ranger relief pitchers allowed just two hits and no runs over 6 2/3 innings to keep the Colorado School of Mines offense at bay and complete a 7-4 victory.  Junior Gerard Mohrmann hit two homeruns in back-to-back at bats to help propel the Rangers offense.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, Regis (20-25, 12-19) junior Chris Steinbeck led off the Rangers first inning with an inside the park homerun.  The ball fell in front of the centerfielder for a single but the ball took a big hop over his head and ended up at the fence and Steinbeck never stopped running and slid into home for his first homerun of the season.

Two batters later, after junior Jesus Arzaga singled, junior Gerard Mohrmann hit a towering homerun to centerfield.  Junior J.T. Putt doubled to left center, his 22nd of the season, and then two batters later, senior Curtis Hornaday, doubled to right field driving in Putt.

Colorado Mines (9-34, 6-24 RMAC) climbed to within one at 4-3 after notching three runs in the second inning.

Regis tallied two in the second after Steinbeck singled and then two batters later Mohrmann hit a no-doubter to right center for his second of the game.  Mines scored one in the third inning but couldn't get anything going against the Ranger relief pitchers.

Sophomore Reuben Gallegos threw 1 2/3 innings to pick up his second win of the season, while freshman Kyle Mack threw three innings allowing just one hit and no runs.  Junior Anthony Musielak threw the last two innings giving up just one hit, walking none and striking out one to earn his fourth save of the season.

Regis tacked on one more run in the fifth inning to make the final score 7-4.

Steinbeck, Mohrmann, Putt, and Hornaday were each 2-for-4 in the game with Mohrmann leading the way with four RBI.

Regis will travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on UNK for their final regular season series.
