Rangers Lose Heartbreaker to Crosstown Rival Metro State 14-13

Denver, Colo.: Regis and Metro State were finally able to play after a foot of snow fell on Thursday.  Sunday's doubleheader turned into just one game after the first game was postponed two hours to let the field dry.  Over three hours later the game ended with Metro State winning a thriller 14-13 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Regis (13-17, 6-11 RMAC) trailed 12-6 after six innings but began to chip away at the Metro State (18-12, 9-8 RMAC) lead.  Regis scored two in the seventh inning on RBI by juniors J.T. Putt and Patrick Farrell.  The Rangers tacked on two more in the eighth to make it a 12-10 game which included a solo blast from freshman Dave Holland, who had three solo homeruns on the day.

Regis took the lead in the top of the ninth when with two outs they scored three to take a 13-12 lead.  Back-to-back-to-back singles by junior Chris Steinbeck, junior Jesus Arzaga and sophomore Zach Blakeley netted the three runs for Regis.

In the bottom of the ninth with two outs and after a Regis error, Tyree Abshire hit a two-run single to plate the winning run and steal a game from the Rangers 14-13.

Holland led the Rangers with his three homeruns going 4-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored.  Arzaga collected five hits in six at-bats also driving in three runs.  Farrell and Steinbeck each had three hits in five at-bats helping the Rangers to 21 total hits.

Junior Eric Anderson had the tough luck loss going three innings allowing no earned runs while striking out three Roadrunners.

Regis will host Colorado Christian this weekend with the first game set for Noon on Friday, April 3rd.
