Solo Home Run by J.T. Putt Scores Lone Run for Rangers in 12-1 Loss to No. 5 Mesa State
Denver, Colo.: A solo shot homerun by junior centerfielder J.T. Putt in the bottom of the sixth inning kept No. 5 Mesa State from shutting out the Rangers. The Mavericks defeated Regis 12-1 on Friday in Denver.
While the Rangers (13-13, 6-7 RMAC) struggled to cross runners over the plate, Mesa State (21-5, 11-2 RMAC) scored two in the first, two in the third, seven in the fourth, and one in the sixth inning to total for 12 runs. In the fourth inning, the Mavericks rallied to register seven runs on six hits with one Regis error. Chase Moore began the inning with a double down the left field line followed by an up the middle single by Marty Rover. Andrew Martinez doubled to centerfield to bring in the first two Maverick runs of the inning. Justin Little reached on an error and Martinez advanced to third. Little stole second before Kevin Becker doubled down the left field line to score both runners.
Reuben Gallegos entered the game to relieve Anthony Musielak. Mike Provenche was the next batter to the plate and homered to left field to bring in two more Maverick runs before two outs brought Craig Lanzarott to the plate. Lanzarott homered to centerfield before a final out took the game into the bottom of fourth.
From that inning on the Rangers held Mesa to just one running while scoring one of their own.
Regis totaled five hits on the day while the Mavericks had 14. Junior Chris Steinbeck went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk while sophomore Zach Blakeley did his part as the designated hitter going 2-for-4. Both had one double in the game.
Recording the win for the Mavericks was Jason Fronczak who is now 5-0 this season. Anthony Musielak recorded the loss and is now 1-3.
