Rangers Sweep Tripleheader With Hastings College; Patrick Farrell Hits Three Homeruns for Rangers

Denver, Colo.: The Regis baseball team and Hastings College decided to play a triple header on Saturday in anticipation of the possibility of bad weater on Sunday.  The Rangers swept the three-game marathon by scores of 17-1, 8-3, and 5-3.

The Ranger bats came out a blazing in the first game as they pounded out 23 hits in scoring their 17 runs.  Senior Curtis Hornaday had four hits, while Colt Meacham, Patrick Farrell, Zach  Blakeley, and Michael Khouri each had three hits.  Farrell supplied much of the offense as he drove in five runs on two home runs, his first two as a Ranger.  The Rangers combined for 10 extra base hits with the Ranger pitchers limiting Hastings to just six hits overall.

Darren Chavez picked up his second win of the young season going seven innings allowing no earned runs on just four hits.

The second game saw the Rangers fall behind 3-1 after two innings when Hastings scored three in the top of the inning.  The Rangers took back the lead in the fifth inning when they plated four runs to take a 6-3 lead.  Khouri and Farrell each had one home run in the game with both leading the way for Regis each going 2-for-3.  Khouri drove in two runs to lead the Rangers.

Senior Kyle Spencer picked up his first win of the season going three innings allowing just one hit and no runs.

Regis got off to a hot start in the third game scoring two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-0 lead.  The Rangers would not score another run in the game and Hastings put together a few hits to make the game close at the end.  Farrell again provided much of the offense leading the team with two hits and three driven in.  Senior Dan Butler got his first start of the season behind the plate and responded with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.

Freshman Chris Rogers picked up his first collegiate victory as he went three innings allowing two earned runs on three hits striking out five.  Junior Anthony Musielak came in in relief to pick up his second save of the season throwing a hitless seventh inning.

The Rangers are now 4-1 on the season and play Hastings in a nine-inning game tomorrow morning at 11 AM at the Regis Baseball Field.
