Rangers Finish Off Sweep of Hastings College with 10-7 Victory on Sunday

Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger baseball team used a big second inning to sweep the four-game series against Hastings College with 10-7 victory on Sunday.  The Rangers jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and held on late to improve to 5-1 on the young season.

The Rangers scored five in the second inning, with the big blast coming off a Curtis Hornaday three-run homerun.  However, Hastings did not go quietly into the night as they scored three runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to cut the lead to 10-6.

Hastings scored one more run in the top of the ninth inning to make the final score 10-7.  Regis got two hits each from Chris Steinbeck, J.T. Putt and Mike Benton, as Regis connected for 12 hits.  Hornaday drove in four runs for Regis, while Benton drove in another two.

Freshman Kyle Mack picked up his first collegiate victory going five scoreless innings allowing just two hits while also striking out two.

Regis will host #4 ranked Emporia State on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series.  First pitch on Saturday is set for 11 AM at the Regis Baseball Field.
