Rangers Take Two From Colorado Christian 14-9 and 11-4

Denver, Colo.: Regis and Colorado Christian squared off for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball games this afternoon with Regis taking both by scores of 14-9 and 11-4. Regis was able to collect 31 hits to outpace the Cougars.

Regis (15-17, 8-11 RMAC) scored at least one run in each of the first five innings leading 13-5 at that point. Colorado Christian (10-21, 4-14 RMAC) would not go quietly in the first game as they scored two runs in the sixth and two more in teh seventh to pull to within four runs. Ranger pitchers junior Eric Anderson and senior Kyle Spencer shut the door on the rally allowing just two runs in three innings of work.

Junior Anthony Musielak picked up his second win of the season going six innings striking out three allowing six earned runs. At the plate, the Rangers pounded out 17 hits only striking out once. Junior shortstop Jesus Arzaga continued his torrid pace going 4-for-6 driving in three runs. Junior outfielder J.T. Putt and senior second baseman Mike Benton each went 3-for-3 with Putt driving in four Rangers. Junior catcher Patrick Farrell also collected three hits and added two more RBI to his team leading 38.

Chad Barnhill paced the Cougar attack with three hits, while Doug Pavlich had a homerun and drove in three for CCU. Chris Guyer tagged two homeruns for the Cougars also driving in three.

The Rangers again scored at least one run in each of the first five innings to take a commanding 11-1 lead. Junior Gerard Mohrmann shut down the Cougars going six innings allowing just one earned run on seven hits. Freshman Kyle Mack came in to finish off the game giving up three earned runs in the seventh inning. Mohrmann evened his season record at 1-1 with the victory.

Arzaga was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate going 7-for-9 in the two games combined. He also drove in three more runs. Sophomore designated hitter Zach Blakeley had three hits also, in four at-bats. Freshman third baseman Dave Holland and junior first baseman Chris Steinbeck were each 2-for-4. Putt went 0-for-4 from the plate snapping a Regis high 15 game hitting streak.

The Ranger pitchers stymied the Cougar offense into just eight hits two each from Mike Cavazos and Daniel Kirschler.

Weather permitting the two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow with first pitch set for Noon at the Regis Baseball Field.
