Associate Athletic Director Ann Martin Tabbed as Next Regis Athletic Director

Denver, Colo.: Regis University President Fr. Michael Sheeran, S.J. announced the hiring of Ann Martin as the next director of athletics. Martin replaces longtime Regis Athletic Director Barbara Schroeder who will be retiring in June.  Martin has been on the Regis athletic administration staff since 2005.

Sheeran notes, “Ann’s experience, both at Regis and with the NCAA, has prepared her to lead our athletic program and to continue our commitment to the academic and competitive success of our student-athletes.”

Martin, a native of Baldwin City, Kan., was most recently the associate director of athletics at Regis, a position she held during the 2009-10 school year.  Previous to that, she was the Rangers assistant athletic director in charge of compliance and marketing and promotions.  She is also the senior woman administrator for Regis, a position she has held since 2005.

“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to lead the Regis University athletic program” states Martin.  “I look forward to working with the campus community, coaches, alumni and student-athletes as together we can build on our success and traditions.  It is an exciting time for Regis University and I am honored to be part of it.”

Martin’s administrative reach stretches further than just the Regis campus.  She is the chair for the NCAA Division II Legislation Committee in which she helped usher in legislation that will shape the future of division II athletics.  She has been a member of the legislation committee since 2007 and will see her two-year term as chair end late in 2010.

Martin’s mentor and predecessor Barb Schroeder comments, “I am very excited and happy for this opportunity for Ann.  I feel good knowing that I am leaving the Regis Athletic Department in good hands.” Schroeder also says, “Ann brings a wealth of experience both at the national level and the local level and with her enthusiasm and work ethic will help move Regis athletics into new and exciting heights.”

A graduate of Rockhurst University (Kan.), Martin has also served on the NCAA Division II Management Council since January 2007 a position she will hold till 2013.  She is also one of two Division II Management Council liaisons to the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

In 2008 Martin served on the NCAA Division II Strategic Planning Project Team, helping set the NCAA Division II Strategic Plan for 2009-2012. Additionally, she was a facilitator for the NCAA Division II Leadership Academy in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 academic years. She also served as a facilitator for the NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference during the 2009 conference.

Martin has been a member of the National Association of Collegiate Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) since 2004. She is a NACWAA/HERS West 2005 graduate and serves as a member of the NACWAA Education and Professional Development Committee. NACWAA awarded Martin the initial Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award in 2008. Locally, she serves on the Sportswomen of Colorado Nominating Committee, a position she has held since the fall of 2006.

Martin previously served as the assistant commissioner at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. (2004-05). Prior to her stint at the RMAC, Martin was the assistant women's basketball coach at Colorado State University–Pueblo.  Martin, who was at CSU-Pueblo from 2002 through 2004, also served as the student development coordinator, the assistant compliance coordinator, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsor, an adjunct professor and a challenge course instructor during her time with the Thunderwolves.

Martin will begin her new appointment June 1, 2010.
