Regis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Co-Hosts 1st Annual Gatorade Pong Tournament

Denver, Colo.: On October 22nd, the Regis University Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) teamed up with CHOICES and SIC to host the first ever Gatorade Pong Tournament. With cooperative weather, great team costumes, a delicious BBQ and lots of swag, the tournament was an overall hit.

At 3:00 pm the tournament kicked off with 64 teams competing for $200 and the chance to call themselves 2009 Gatorade Pong Champions. Although there was twenty minutes scheduled for each ten cup round, some competitors had no trouble winning in a matter of minutes, while others came down to the last cup. After two hours of intense competition it was JT Putt and Chris Steinbeck who took home the crown. Along with the money and the bragging rights, they were also drenched with a bucket of Gatorade; just another bonus of winning the tournament!

Although only one team took home the first place prize, no team went home empty handed. CHOICES gave each of the 128 players a gift bag filled with Frisbees, coffee mugs, and other goodies. In addition, Marissa Davis and Marianne Clausen were the winners of the best T-shirt competition and SIC provided a BBQ for all participants.

Along with all the fun, this fundraiser was established as an alcohol awareness program that would unite the Regis community as well as raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. After all was said done SAAC raised over $500 dollars; a major step in fully funding Andrue’s wish to go to Disney World.

For those of you that missed out on Gatorade Pong this fall, no need to fret. The event was such a success, there is talk of doing is again in the Spring!
