Dr. Tod Sweeney is a native of Lakewood, Colorado and played collegiate baseball at the University of Pennsylvania where as an undergraduate, his interest in sports medicine developed.
After finishing his undergraduate work, Dr Sweeney went to medical school at the University of Vermont and then completed a Family Medicine residency at Maine Medical Center.
Continuing his passion for sports medicine from his playing days, Dr Sweeney completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Colorado, and is now Board Certified in both Sports and Family Medicine. Today, Dr. Sweeney is the team physician for local area high schools, universities and professional sports teams. He also helps hundreds of local athletes with performance, injury prevention, and injury recovery.
Dr. Sweeney is also an accomplished writer, educator and leader in his field. He has published several articles about sports medicine and shares his knowledge at conferences across the country. As a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Saint Anthony's Family Medicine Residency Program, he educates medical students and residents.
Paying it forward and advancing sports and family medicine is important to Dr. Sweeney. He recently completed his tenure as the Family Medicine Department Chairman at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and as President for the Rocky Mountain American College of Sports Medicine Regional Chapter, where he now serves as the Regional Chapter Representative. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Practice. He is also a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Sweeney, his wife and three daughters embrace the Colorado lifestyle and it reflects in their family-centered practice. They love hiking, biking, skiing, running and traveling, and of course, staying healthy.
